I didn’t know there was so much more into awareness, thoughts, emotions, environment, routines, etc. that affects concentration. Everything relies on concentration and awareness. It’s one of the most vital skill to have. I love the concentration training. I’ve replaced normal meditation and included “concentration training” to my daily routine. We’ll see where I’m at after a year doing these exercises. I could already see results.. thank you. A must read!
If you have difficulty with concentration or struggle with issues like impulsivity, hyperactivity and even ADHD then you need to read this book. I've had these issues for as long as I can remember and the solutions in here are some of the best I have found anywhere and that includes trying all sorts of medication. That is because most people have no idea what it's like inside a person who lacks focus, I mean they sort of understand the external behaviors but not the inner psyche causing it.No b…ook I've read described what's going on for me as well as this book from my thoughts racing and jumping, the daydreams and mental movies playing in my head, to all the impulses, drives, emotions and addictions disrupting my focus. Kam Knight gets it on a level even therapists and psychiatrists I've seen haven't and I've seen plenty. Which is the reason he tackles a problem so many have but have struggled to find a solution.None of the solutions he offers are conventional wisdom like "remove distractions," "turn off notifications," "practice mindfulness" or "set a pomodoro timer." Thank goodness because 1. we already know and heard of them and 2. if they worked so many wouldn't still be struggling. They don't work because as Kam says they assume I already have good concentration and these things are getting in the way. but if my focus is not good to start with these things can only do so much if anything at all. Sorry to say turning off notifications never slowed my racing thoughts and setting a timer never did anything to stop my impulsive behavior.I needed to train these things directly and Kam provides a treasure chest of exercises that do that. The practicality of these exercises surprised me because they were simple to use yet remarkably effective. From exercises that stopped the mental movies playing in my head to training me to stay with tasks longer, I learned reliable solutions to most problems affecting my concentration and I could feel myself becoming more productive and sticking with assignments I never thought possible. This book leaves no stone unturned it addresses every cause that could possibly affect concentration and offers solutions that deal specifically with it. If you get lost in your thoughts, have shinny object syndrome, get distracted from worries, overwhelmed by tasks or are a hyper and flustered person he answers to all of that.He even looks at improving concentration from a biological route in diet, exercise, and sleep. I began removing foods proven to cause inattentiveness and hyperactivity specially in children, engaging in focus rejuvenating activities and prioritizing restorative sleep and these changes not only improved my focus but positively impacted my overall well-being.Though the discussion on distractions was the best which is the deepest dive into distractions I've ever read. First it makes a distinction between external and internal distractions and then probes internal distractions in ways that blew my mind. I never realized even without any distractions in my external environment, the commotion inside my and mind and body can still affect my focus. This section helped me humbly confront them to manage my life better.Kam says concentration is the single "most important skill anyone can develop" and I whole heartedly agree. Whatever your issues are whether your mind races, jumps randomly from one idea to anther, gets lost in daydreams, is always chasing shiny objects, are overly stimulated, easily aroused or always have worries, this book covers it all. You'll be surprised how easy focus becomes.
I haven't practiced the memory exercises in this book yet, but they all seem to be pretty legit. Book is well written and applies well studied techniques to improving focus and memory.

I really enjoyed this book. The author has a very clear and concise way of explaining how to access your ability to focus. The techniques for focusing/ concentrating were either new to me or great reminders that I will use in every day living. I will keep this book close by for times that I need it, including Pickleball matches!
As a nurse some days I am required to go in 1000 different directions at the same time. With all the various types of noise in the ICU at once being able to concentrate despite it. My copy of your book has several flags/ post it notes marking the different exercises for easy access. I can see this book being out on my desk at all times for fast and easy access. Kam Knight can't thank you enough. Thank you for this book. My focus has improved tremendously!!!
No quick fixes as the author stated at the start of the book. Clearly describe what autopilot and unconscious thoughts and actions look like—loving this book so far.
Like his other book, Speed reading, I enjoyed reading this one and applying the techniques for better concentration.
